While I understand that my actions were not legally acceptable, this particular correctional facility isn't going to possess any means by which to reintroduce my behavior into a society and thus given the circumstances, I am going to take this as an anthropological opportunity to observe prison life through cultural immersion techniques.

I would appreciate it if you would provide me with an accurate list of your name, inmate number, crimes, and cultural backgrounds to get started. Though, I do understand if any of you are hesitant and I expect that the information I receive initially won't be entirely accurate due to an embedded social fear of the ethnocentric nature of most outside parties.

I will start. My name is Dr. Temperance Brennan of the Jeffersonian Institute in Washington, D.C. I am a forensic anthropologist and Best Selling author with doctorates in Physical Anthropology, Forensic Anthropology, and Kinesiology. I am here for perjury.

Doctor Brennan is acceptable. While I don't believe you have any leverage to set a condition, I am willing to hear what it is though I cannot guarantee I'll accept it while I am doing you a favor.

At the time of my arrest, I was accompanied by a friend. He is presently incarcerated here, too.

Was he convicted for the same crime? Just to be very clear, I believe in the truth and the law. If the two of you are truly innocent, I have no problem working to get you or any other number of individuals out of here provided that I can see the evidence for myself and make my own judgment.

I'm not sure what he was charged with, but it's likely.

"Innocent" is not the word I would use. Despite the presence of extenuating circumstances, wee committed the crimes we were sentenced for. But from what I have read on Japanese law, our sentences are unjust.

Self-defense is not a crime. I've killed someone before to save my partner and he's killed many people in the line of duty.

My research indicates that "not guilty" and "innocent" are not strictly synonyms in a legal sense.

The idea of innocence beyond the criminal proceedings use of "not guilty" is entirely ludicrous to begin with considering it's simply a bunch of psychological vaguery regarding how much someone views their moral standpoint based on an undefinable scale of beliefs.

Yes, and considering most of psychology is unquantifiable guesswork, there's very little value in it.

Psychology is the least useful field of study I've ever encountered.

I look into everything I can. I was unable to look up much of anything prior to my arrival here.

I haven't decided. There seem to be an infinite number of options.

Anthropology and forensics can both be very fascinating, though I do try to keep up with a number of fields that I don't have doctorates in as well.

I haven't yet looked into those. Anthropology is the study of human beings, correct? That sounds immensely useful.

Yes. Though there are various subgroups. For example, my particular doctorates are in Physical and Forensic which deal with the evolution of humanity as a species and the use of Physical Anthropology techniques and osteology as a tool to solve crimes in which the remains have faced extensive degradation. Though, I also know a significant amount about cultural and have studied extensively in the area and have done immersive cultural anthropology on multiple occasions. Archeology is somewhat more subjective as it makes assumptions based on only physical evidence from the past and is influenced by storytelling techniques, but is still valid. There's Linguistic Anthropology, which focuses on the development of languages alongside humans. Applied anthropology is also a subfield, though considering that it is simply the use of the other fields to affect a chance in a current situation, I would consider it an informal subfield.

Given that the history of humanity surpasses multiple millennia and the future, yes. It could keeps one attention for an entire lifetime.
