Grand opening!

[As soon as it's 7:00 am, there is a loud beep that echoes through the corridors of the prison. It's time for an announcement as the intercom comes on.]

Good morning my wonderful criminals, how are you all feeling? Don't worry, I can assure you that dizzy spell will wear off as soon as you get up and stretch those legs of yours. Be careful of your collar as well, as you might have guessed it has all sorts of functions! Also, today is December 8th, Sunday, and it's currently 7 am.

Now, it would be in your best interest to read your manuals that we've given you, just so you can get nice and settled in.

I'm afraid it's a little cold outside, if you have time to check the courtyards then you'll most likely feel that winter's breeze on your rosy little cheeks! Do be careful, I don't want any of you getting frostbite on your first day, that would be tragic.

Since it's the grand opening for you new comers, we are currently holding a small party in the cafeteria! Grab your soon-to-be-friends and head on down. We have tables set up and food as well!

[With that being said, the doors to the cells now slide open, allowing the inmates to leave their rooms.

In the cafeteria majority of the tables have been cleared away, and the ones that remain have red tablecloths on them, nice and fancy! The spread consists of luxurious food, even sweets of all kinds. Since it's December, it seems that the warden is in a rather giving mood, aren't you all lucky! ]

[ Loki smiled, laughing slightly at her blunt way of speech. ]

No, it certainly won't.

[ He peered briefly at the spread laid across the table. How long it had been since he had seen anything like it.

He turned back to Xiaoyu, a practiced look of uncertainty painted on his face. ]

What do you think I should try, then?

Anything! I mean- I'm a pretty big of stuff like Korean barbeque myself.

[which is where all the meat on her plate is coming from.]

Unless you're a vegetarian... you're not... are you?

No, I'm not; but it was very polite of you to ask. Perhaps I'll trust your judgment.

[ He turned his attention to the table for a third time, pondering his choices a moment longer before deciding to loosely base his plate on the girl's, though with much less meat and a bit more green than she had gone with. ]

Pardon me if I'm being too intrusive, but would you be bothered if I sat along with you? So many here are company too strange for my taste.

[ That was partially true, at least.

He paused briefly, realizing he had forgotten something important. ]

I'm sorry, my poor manners are showing. You may call me Loki.

[well, she didn't mind one bit! xiaoyu nodded at the man, turning to go to the tables, scanning a place to sit.]

Oh wow- I forgot to introduce myself too! I'm Ling Xiaoyu. You can just call me Xiaoyu though.

[ Loki smiled politely as a show of gratitude. How a girl like this had landed herself in one of the most harsh prisons on the planet was baffling mystery. One he would have to unravel eventually. ]

I'll do my best to be good company, then.

[ He watched her as she studied the room, searching for a table that satisfied her criteria. Loki pretended it didn't bother him, but it did. How long did it take to find a place to sit?

Bah, back to niceties. She was talking to him again. ]

Xiaoyu? A lovely name. You are Chinese, I take it?

Yep, born and raised. Well, kiiinda on the raised part. I moved to Japan.

[been living there for a while now yup.]

And I literally have no idea where a name like Loki comes from. Ah, I mean, it's cool and all! But it's.... really unique? Yeah.

[ Loki nodded his acknowledgement as he listened to her speak, simultaneously trying to come up with some sort of convincing lie on the origin of his name. In truth, even he didn't know why he was called what he was. It was a question that he would likely never find an answer to. ]

There's no need to be so complimentary, but thank you all the same.

[ He quietly laughed to himself at the way Xiaoyu's words tumbled out of her mouth. It was if her brain couldn't keep up with the speed at which she spoke. ]

Ah, but where does any name come from? A country of origin or a note tucked away in a book can't tell us the true meaning of what we've labelled ourselves, can it?

[xiaoyu's brain is always moving too quickly for her poor mouth.]

Wow, you must be great at parties.

[in other words, this guy is a total downer. but like xiaoyu cares, she finds him interesting so she just gives him a thumbs up.]

[ As to be expected, his words had flown directly over Xiaoyu's head. She certainly couldn't be praised for her intellect, but at least she was somewhat endearing. ]

You would be surprised. I happen to be exceptional at magic tricks.

[ If successful theft could be considered magic, anyway.

At the very least, she had offered him a gesture of approval. No harm in returning it, he imagined. ]

[she was less than stellar when it came to smarts. she was a perceptive girl when she put her mind to it, sure, but she wasn't the greatest in school.

school. at least she didn't have to worry about grades here.]

Ooh I'd like to see that.

[was he being serious?! she wasn't too sure anymore. but xiaoyu turned, scanning the tables. she gestured over to one of the free spots.]

Let's go sit over there.

Then I would be more than happy to show you sometime.

[ For all his lying, he was honestly quite good at the art of "magic". Perhaps it was merely his nature to be skilled in all things in the realm of deception. ]

Of course. Lead the way.

[and she does lead the way! she's walking towards the table, reaching it and setting her plate down on it. xiaoyu gets settled in her seat before turning to him.]

Y'know, you're oddly friendly for being in prison... [just an observation, really.]

[ Loki followed quietly, passively observing a handful of other inmates as he went. They reached the table quickly, and he sat down beside her. ]

I could say the same of you, Xiaoyu. Perhaps neither of us were meant to be here.

Yeah...

[she was framed. kind of.]

Breaking and entering is totally a crime though.

[ Loki hadn't been framed in the slightest, but that wouldn't stop him from pretending. ]

But not all who commit crime are malicious of intent. I can hardly imagine a girl like yourself doing anything so wrong unless the situation demanded it.

[erm... she fiddles with her fork.]

Yeah I... kinda got caught breaking and entering. It was for someone, they asked me to. It's... complicated.

[she didn't want to go fully into detail, she had been doing bad things for a military group after all.]

[ He nodded in understanding, knowing not to push her further for clarification. There was no need to know more, though he wouldn't have minded if she had continued. At the very least, he could surmise with relative certainty that she was, for the most part, harmless. ]

If that is your only charge, then you should take solace in knowing you won't remain here for the rest of your days. Many people would envy that.

Her statement certainly earned Xiaoyu a sidelong glance, though the trace of a smile followed in its wake. The thought of a young girl attacking military personnel was a notion impossible to find unamusing. ]

Is that so? You must be very confident in your abilities.

Ahaha.... aahh... well you know, I was in fighting tournaments and stuff too.

[yadda yadda, just tell him everything why don't you xiaoyu! she needs to learn to keep her mouth shut sometimes.]

That's quite the impressive accomplishment. And what are these tournaments like? I can't say I have ever had the privilege of experiencing one.

[ Loki very much appreciated her inability to stay quiet. ]

Suuuuuper intense! I get far enough, but I've never won any...

[she laughs nervously.]

To get far at all is still a worthy accomplishment. If the manuals are any indication of what we are to face, your abilities will be a great advantage.

[ He noted the nervous tinge to her laugh and offered her a reassuring glance in return.

He was beginning to wonder why she had yet to ask him anything about his own sentencing. ]

[xiaoyu wants to pry, she really does, but at the same time she feels like it's not her place. not just yet. she'll be asking him so many questions after the shock of being in prison sets in.]

Hey thanks, that means a lot to me. You're an okay guy, Loki.

[ Loki furrowed his brows for a moment, carefully considering what she had said. Xiaoyu had no reason for insincerity, yet it was strange to be deemed "okay" by any stretch of the imagination. ]

I should be thanking you. I've not received such kind words in a very long time.
