[ The feed turns on rather abruptly today -- there's a young, familiar girl with purple hair on the screen, but there's something different about her. Rather than having her usual, demure appearance, she seems to boast self-confidence, clapping for everyone with a smile.

And that smile seems to practically radiate evil. There's a laugh that leaves her lips, a mischievous one. But people who know her well might notice that there's something missing. You know the wheelchair that she's usually sitting in? Well, she's not sitting down on it now. ]

Congratulations, congratulations, Group A! It seems that you guys managed to conquer the mafia game without too many losses. Too bad you all are so bad at it. To be honest, I would have done it in a much more entertaining way; starving people to death in a bo~ring coliseum like that is no fun.

Too bad nobody listened to me. I could have helped them. I could have led those poor sheep to salvation. But that's too bad, because in the end they ended up killing themselves. Oh, well. Being able to know how many people died was quite entertaining, and I was this close to laughing when everyone thought that I was the wolf.

Ha! If I was the wolf, I would done a much better job of choosing my victims. It's too bad that it had to end in such a way. How pitiful. Oh, but I guess I forgot to introduce myself. After all, this is the first time we've spoken like this, isn't it? [ She smiles, cruelly, a chuckle leaving her lips. ] My name is Hazama Rei. It's a pleasure to meet you. It's too bad that we can't be friends, though. Now then, I suppose if any of you have questions, you might as well ask them. I may or may not answer them, depending how busy I am.

[Roman's spent a while playing with the communicator's camera. If he has to stay in prison, he's going to own it, and first impressions are everything. Some crappy selfie just won't cut it. The video clicks on to a well-framed shot of him lounging in the commons. His posture and smile ooze with relaxed confidence. He's already bought back his bowler hat, and a one hand rests on a heavily padded cane. He raises the other in greeting.]

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Roman Torchwick. They say that I'm responsible for burglary, murder, arson... [He ticks the crimes off on his fingers before he trails of and shrugs.] Just pick up a newspaper, really. I can't keep track.

I'd say I look forward to getting to know you all, but I doubt I'll be here long enough for that. I wouldn't have bothered introducing myself, but I thought it would be polite. Wouldn't want to piss of a bunch of punks, right? [He smirks at the camera.] Things could get dangerous.

Well! That's all for now. See you around, ladies and gentlemen. [He tips his hat and ends the feed.]

Roman spends a while wandering around the prison, taking note of all the security features he could see. Cameras, locked doors, guard posts... anything that might give him trouble. There would be plenty hidden features too, but he could figure those out later. All he needed today was a basic lay of the land and a little money.

That second one shouldn't be too hard. Once he had the obvious cameras picked out of the cafeteria, he could figure the least visible areas. After that it was just a matter of catching the breakfast rush, finding few groggy suckers in the crowd, and he'd be set.

[ The video feed turned on to show a girl in her early twenties. She's short in stature, but her pink hair and punk rock way of dressing does plenty to make her stand out. It seems she's put the communicator somewhere so she can move freely as she talks. From the looks of things she's somewhere out in the courtyard. ]

I figure since show time ain't til later today, I've got a few hours to kill... so, what better time than now to introduce myself, right?

[ There were probably a lot of better times. Not like she would show herself on camera in that disgusting jumpsuit, though. ]

I'll make it simple and quick, since I wanna know about you guys more than I wanna blab about myself. Name's Abigail Walker, but friends and enemies call me Fetch. Maybe if some of you get lucky I might tell you how I got that name sometime. [ That wasn't too likely. She didn't plan on getting that close to anyone. ]

By the way, I don't know if swapping war stories is common, but all I'm gonna say is I'm here because I did some bad stuff. Made some mistakes. Don't much want to talk about those things either, so don't ask.

[ She had been pacing before, but finally she was slowing down. The whole point of this was to calm herself down and maybe assert herself as someone not to mess with. Good morning everyone. It's 7:02am on Wednesday the 15th and it's still snowing. Which means it's cold, but I don't think that's really the issue anymore.

You're all probably going to drop dead this morning if you can't afford candy, but I'll help out a little. Let me know what your favorite recipe is, then perform a task that I give you individually. If you can do it, I'll give you a CP boost of 30,000CP.

[ Now that she's trying to work hard an get back on her feet, it's only right that she try to attempt something, for her sake. Besides, it would be nice for others to learn too, especially since this place is pretty bad.

And... helping others is a good thing, right? She believes the others will find a way to get her out of here from the outside. And it is in that strong belief that she holds so dear that she can regain her confidence. And if she does that, in turn, she might also be able to overcome her biggest fear -- androphobia. ]

I have a very important announcement for everyone here, whether you're new or not! I'll be holding karate classes, and I'm opening them up for both genders. The first class is a free trial class; any class after that will be negotiable, though I'm hoping for a minimum of 300 CP per hour.

I'm also opening up shop for sewing as well. I can either teach or make something for you guys -- as long as it's within reason. And I'm willing to tutor anybody who needs help, too. All prices will be negotiated either privately in person or through a private message over the communication device.

I don't know how many of you saw, but Tidus and I did a pretty good job of ticking off the Warden I think. I mean, she killed us both during that event since we refused to participate. If the audience is disappointed, then they aren't going to make their money. Sometimes a non-violent protest against violence is hard, but if more people start participating, it won't be easy to ignore.

That's all I wanted to say. I would've said it sooner, but I had a few things to think about.

It was just that oatmeal slop- she needed to save her money for candy, after all-- especially since she hadn't gotten any from the event, so she only had the 100,000 that everyone had defaulted to. At this rate, she'd be dead before the week was up if she didn't find a way to get enough money before she ran out.

Despite that, she apparently had decided to purchase some poster paper and a calligraphy pen, both of which were sitting next to her as she worked on finishing that gross oatmeal slop. She's got plans, alright. ]

Good morning, sleepy heads. [ It's said with a yawn. Apparently this was another one of those days where she didn't actually want to be awake and doing the announcements. Who was really the sleepy head here? ]

It was nice meeting some of you at the event. Sorry that it had to go that way for a lot of you, but at least you got some CP. Which is pretty good for you, considering the news I have today.

Well, let's start with the obvious first. It's 7:14am on Sunday, January 12th, 2024-- no, 2025.

[ The sound pulls back a little. Yes, right in the middle of the announcement. Her chair makes a little creaking noise as she leans back in it in a way that the chair is probably not meant to lean back. ] Bro, did I date those papers wrong yesterday?

Hm? [The Director makes a sound in response to her, then shrugs.] ...You must have. I suppose I can go track them down. [And he simply sighs after that, leaving the room.]

Thaaaaanks. [ She calls out as he leaves the room, then apparently remembers she was on the announcements right now. The chair slams down onto the ground, obviously on all fours again. ] Oh-

Onto the news I was talking about: Due to a recent string of thefts, violence, and other unacceptable behavior between inmates, all of your CP accounts are being reset to make up for the difference. We considered only doing it to those specific people who have committed the crimes, but this should act as a warning and an incentive to stop those around you from committing crimes as well. Your CP accounts will start at 100,000CP plus whatever you won in the last event. So if you managed to win 80,000CP, you will have 180,000CP in your account. I hope you all did well, but everyone will be able to afford at least one candy to start.

[ She pauses for a moments, her fingers lightly tapping on the mic for the announcements as she thinks, creating a light 'pff pff' sound until she speaks up again. ]

Oh, the other thing- all of your candies have been confiscated. The doctor changed the dosage, so all new candies will last 3 days now to encourage further voluntary participation in events. The poison in your collars was temporarily adjusted to use up the antidote more quickly so everyone starts at the same point. Additionally, if for whatever reason you manage to hide one of your old candies, there's an ingredient in the current ones that won't mix well with the old dosage. It'll make you sick enough to wish you were dead. Don't do it if you know what's good for you.

Don't kill the messenger. [ even though some of it was her suggestion, but she'll pretend it wasn't to avoid complaints ] I'm just doing my job, so if you all follow the rules then I don't have to give you bad news. I'll try to answer questions if you have any, but don't be rude.

Waking up
[Shotaro woke up screaming. Perhaps out of some remembered pain, or his fear had been a bit more than he had let on in front of Terui. His eyes were wide and his face sweaty as he patted himself down. As if he had to verify that yes, indeed, he was still here.

Sadly his foot still wasn't. It would have been nice if they gave it back. It might take the edge off.]

On with his day
[Just because he should be dead didn't mean he didn't have work to do. He made his daily check of the Tip Box in the Lounge before heading to his morning shift at the Gift Shop. After having lunch and doing some reading in the Lounge with his stump propped up on the coffee table, he's off to work again in the Laundry.

He might be a little excessively jumpy today, so it's a great time for people to sneak up on him and clap him on the shoulder.]

Can anybody tell me more about these "Deadman" people? I already know a little bit, that they're people who have special things they can do with their blood, but I want to know more. What causes it? What all can Deadmen do? That kind of thing.

[Because even the removal of his foot isn't going to keep a good detective down. He spends the rest of the morning recuperating in his room, but after lunchtime he's on his feet--or foot again. He's using a crutch to get around, and his balance would be pretty good, if the event had not been so recent.

He puts in a half-shift at the Gift Shop, since he'd already missed the first half. He's hanging out on a stool behind the counter for the most part, even if he's trying not to make Yui uncomfortable.

After that, he's got some time to go seek out John Smith in his cell. He has some serious apologizing to do for how everything ended up. Sure, he'd come of his own free will, but he still felt like an asshole.

Later, he heads to the Laundry for as much as he can take. Someone might need to talk him into going home.

He'll talk to whoever would like to in or between any of these places.]

[After the morning announcement today, Rei is going to buy several things at the gift shop, one of them being a gift for the Warden for her wonderful display. It's a necklace with a queen's crown charm attached to it. The gift is in a box and given to one of the guards to hand over, and it also comes with an anonymous message, though it's not as if Rei cares if the Warden knows who it's from.

The message says the following:

Thanks for the entertainment. They deserved it for not following the rules, after all. Hopefully the others who tried to go against you will get their proper punishment as well in due time. This present is for you, so that when people will see you with this crowned jewel on you, they'll know who the true queen is.

And then it's time to write up a post. She's been bored lately, and she needs some entertainment. Besides, she's certain that people will participate. She knows they will. Which is why in the afternoon, she'll type up an annoymous post for everyone to see.]

Since there's been a bit of trouble lately, and lots of new people, I wanted to let you all know that I am Shotaro Hidari. I'm a detective, and since this prison is my new territory, I'm not going to forgive anyone that makes the people in it cry. In hard-boiled fashion, of course. I'm flexible on payment, sometimes just seeing a grateful smile is enough.
